Citizen involvement in lake stewardship, and many decades of contributions to citizen science / water quality research across Ontario were part of the rationale for a recent international award presented to the Federation of Ontario Cottagers’ Associations (FOCA).

FOCA proudly received the Leadership and Service – Education and Outreach Award from the North American Lake Management Society (NALMS), at the 35th annual NALMS symposium in Saratoga Springs, NY in November 2 2015. The award is given to individuals or groups for the design, facilitation or performance of exceptional education and outreach activity that furthers the understanding of and appreciation for lake management science. Selection criteria include innovation, creativity, impact, and dedication. FOCA’s many Association volunteers, lake stewards, Board of Directors and staff have contributed to a better understanding and appreciation of Ontario’s freshwater lakes (and rivers) since 1963.
